Emergency Medicine Residency Program

The Emergency Medicine Residency Program at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School is dedicated to providing the ideal environment for residents to become compassionate emergency medicine physicians who will confidently provide evidence-based, cost-effective care to every patient they treat.
Our postgraduate year (PGY)-1 to PGY-3 program has the residents rotating through Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH), a Level 1 Trauma Center and a leader in the provision of Emergency Care to the residents of central New Jersey. RWJUH is the only academic medical center and provider of tertiary and quaternary healthcare services in central New Jersey. Immediately adjacent to RWJUH is the Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital, providing state-of-the-art care to the pediatric patients of central New Jersey.
Residency and fellowship programs training at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School benefit from the resources and interprofessional opportunities available through the Rutgers Health institutional sponsorship. Dear Alumni,
I hope this message finds you well and thriving in your career. As a valued graduate of our Emergency Medicine Residency or Ultrasound Fellowship program, your continued success is a testament to the strength and spirit of our alumni community.
In recent years, we have been able to expand our class size to nine residents a year, add an Emergency Medicine fourth-year student subinternship, and create a Rutgers Health system-wide Simulation Fellowship. We have recruited three additional research faculty and staff and plan to establish a formal Research Division in the coming academic year.
At Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, we remain committed to advancing emergency medicine through innovation, research, and excellence in education. To do this, we rely on the support of dedicated alumni like you. Today, we invite you to continue your dedication to our ever-growing program with a contribution helping us establish the RWJMS Emergency Medicine Academic Support Fund. Donations to this new fund will directly support:
- Resident-led research initiatives
- Academic enrichment opportunities
- Conference participation and presentation
- Simulation and teaching resources
Our goal is to raise $5,000 to establish this new fund. Every contribution—big or small—makes an impact. It helps our residents grow into leaders who will shape the field of emergency medicine just as you have. As I prepare to step down from my position as founding chair later this month, my hope is that this fund will continue my legacy in the Department of Emergency Medicine as it supports students and trainees for years to come.
If you're able to support us, click here to donate now. If you have any questions about how to make a gift, please reach out to Alexa Comuniello, Associate Director of Development for RWJMS with the Rutgers University Foundation at alexa.comuniello@rutgersfoundation.org.
